Evidence of a Left-Hander

Anybody that knows me knows that I am VERY proud of being left-handed. I love it! I think there's a sense of pride in being a non-righty! :) I always told Aaron that I hope one of my kids turns out to be a lefty. Well, my wish might be coming true! We started to really watch Brody play, eat, etc. and he does everything with the left. We'll see how things go, but here's some evidence of a southpaw....

He LOVES his basketball hoop!

Date Night

On our way up to the school for Aaron's game Friday night, I decided to tell Jenna that Aaron and I would be going on a date on Saturday. I don't know how her mind works sometimes, but this is how the conversation went:

Me: Jenna, guess what? You and Brody get to go to Ava's house tomorrow and play because Mom and Dad are going to go on a date.
Jenna: A date? Just you and papa?
Me: Yep, sometimes mom and dad just need some time alone.
Jenna: Okay. Are you going to bring a new baby home with you?
Me (laughing): Um, no, not this time.

Getting SO Big!

I just can't believe that Brody is 9-almost-10 months old. Makes the mom pretty sad! After a couple of weather issues, we finally had his 9 month appointment and vaccinations a couple days ago. He is in the 85th percentile for weight and 94th for height (shocking, I know!). Brody is just going to be one, tall, solid boy. We love our big man and wouldn't have him any other way. Besides, we wouldn't know what to do with a little baby! :)

Brody is such a little daredevil, a lot more so than Jenna. His latest conquest is climbing up the stairs. He made it all the way to the top for the first time the other day, with me following behind him, just in case. I couldn't resist taking some pics of him - he was very determined!

This was how I found him - on his way up!
Miss Jenna - egging him on.
One more step to go...
I did it! Now I can hang out with my big sister. :)

Laid Back Weekend

It was a busy weekend for Aaron, but not so much for the kids and me. Aaron had games on Friday and Saturday nights. We planned on staying home on Friday nite, but wanted to go to the game on Saturday. After driving to Marshalltown Saturday morning Aaron came home and told me that I wasn't going to the game because the roads were drifting and visibility was really bad.

The good thing about staying home was that I got to watch a movie after the kids went to bed. I hardly ever get to watch movies in full. You've Got Mail was on Friday and You, Me and Dupree on Saturday. I've seen them both before, but it was nice to kick back and relax.

The weather warmed up a little, which was nice because Jenna and I finally got to try out her new sled that she got for Christmas. I had to pull her around the house about a million times, she loved it! Here's a picture of Jenna in her sled:

Frozen

On the coldest day in 10 years, I woke up and started my usual morning routine. When I went to brush my teeth and turned on the water...nothing. No cold water at all. I checked the hot and that came out (the water that was in the hot water heater). Aaron checked it out and said we either probably had a frozen pipe or a water main break. So, at 7 AM I called our landlords and they were over there by 8:30 AM with the City and they figured out the problem. Luckily, it was just frozen by where it came into the house and Curt, our landlord, had it thawed out within a couple of hours. Thankfully, it was not as bad as it could have been and hopefully they got the problem fixed. I was totally freaking out about not being able to take a shower!

Where's Brody?

He sure does love the porcelain!

That seems to be the question around our house these days. And, we seem to always know the answer: playing at the toilet!! If we leave the bathroom door open he will crawl in there and either stick his hand in the water or pull the lid down on his hand. I am a slight germ-a-phobe and the whole thing completely grosses me out! Brody, however, has a great time!

Minnesota Christmas Pics

Because we haven't all been together for a very long time, I took it upon myself to get everybody to take some family pictures. Let's just say they weren't too happy about it! Here are a few of them:

The Hunecke Cousins

My dad and his "friends" as Jenna calls them...his brothers Stan and Tim.

Grandkids with Grandma & Grandpa
I had some issues with this picture, sorry I couldn't get it to crop correctly. Here's a Hunecke family picture that we didn't get taken in Cherokee.

You know you're in Minnesota when...

We spent last weekend in Minnesota for our fifth (and final!) Christmas. Whew! What a holiday season! We headed up to my grandparents in Hastings Friday afternoon and drove back home on Sunday in some pretty crappy, icy conditions.
Anyway, everytime we go up there I think, you just know you're in Minnesota. Here are some obvious choices for my list:
1. You get into town and kids are playing hockey, just like we would a pick-up basketball game.
2. The weather guy's name first name is Sven.
3. The accents! And yes, you do have them.
4. No matter what the conditions, the weather people go OUTSIDE to do the weather.

That's what so cool about Minnesooooooodah!

Hawks Win; Happy New Year!

I am sure that some of you may have been struggling at 10 am yesterday morning but our house was up and ready to go. With the Hawks on (and living in Iowa State territory) we are always ready for a Hawkeye victory to brag about. Jenna and Brody were both decked out in their new Iowa gear, although Brod slept most of the first half, he didn't miss much as the 'Ol Ball Coach didn't have his team ready and the Hawks won easily, what a great way to start the new year.

As for New Years Eve, we went to a low key party with some of Aaron's co-workers. It was a small, fun group that drank and even broke into some Wii action before the night was over, not bad for people that had nothing planned the night before. It all started with a phone call that led to all of kids going to one house and the adults going to another. I think there ended up to be about 10 kids under the age of 7 all being together with 2 freshmen girls (I am sure they were wore out by the end of the night). All in all, it was fun for us all to get out (away from the kids for a few hours) and have some adult time.

Happy New Year to all!!
