Halloween 2016

Halloween 2016 is in the books!  What a beautiful night for trick-or-treating.  I was telling the kids about the big snow storm in 1991 where we got 15 inches of snow.  LUCKILY, that wasn't the case. :)

I really, really wanted the kids to be the Ghostbusters because I think this might be Jenna's last year trick-or-treating.  They didn't buy it though and each chose their own thing.  If you all know me, you know I am not a big store bought costume person.  I like to try to make costumes out of stuff we have if possible.  That worked to my advantage this year.

First up, Mr. Bowen.  He wanted to be a baseball player and wore Brody's jersey so that was easy.
Blake had this Iowa Hawkeye football uniform, so that was another easy-peasy pick.  Blake and Bowen just had to have eye black because that's what "those guys" wear.  That was definitely their favorite part.
We headed to the store thinking Jenna was going to be Where's Waldo, but we couldn't find the right shirt.  I had screenshot some costume ideas and she decided on a pirate.  She found this shirt and the rest we just threw together.  The funny thing is, I have three boys, but have never had a pirate before.
And last but not least...Brody.  Brody and Aaron came up with the idea for him to be long-time Cubs announcer Harry Caray.  I'm in love with how it turned out.  I mean, HOLY COW!! We found the coat at Goodwill, the glasses were sunglasses that we popped the lenses out, Aaron made a press pass for him and I made the microphone.

I think this one will definitely go down as one of my favorite Burdorf Family costumes ever!  Perfect year for it, wouldn't you say?!  Go Cubs Go!
The kids and I (Aaron had to ref a volleyball game) stayed busy for almost the entire two hours and we got way too much candy!!!!
Happy Halloween!

Happy (belated) Halloween!

A very belated Happy Halloween to you all!  Halloween this year was different.  We had my Grandma June's funeral on Saturday morning in Hastings.  After the funeral and luncheon, we headed back to Mankato for trick-or-treating.  Maddox's birthday was supposed to be on Saturday, but we had to push it back until Sunday.

Anyway, I tried my hardest to get a theme out of my four just one more year.  No dice.  I thought I was close in getting them to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but they all copped out on me the week before Halloween.  I was picking my battles and just going with it.  Without further ado, here are the Burdorf family's costumes for this year...

Brody - FBI Agent
Bowen - Spiderman (same exact costume Brody wore last year)
 Jenna - Farmer
 Blake - Buzz Lightyear

 My four.  Typical chaos.
Jess, Mitch, Carter and Baby Carson.
We sort of didn't realize that the adults were also supposed to dress up, so we made do.  Jess and I ran to Target and literally grabbed the last costumes they had - flapper costumes.  Justin and Mandy had these gorilla costumes laying around, so that worked for Aaron and Justin.
Jess, Mandy the Maleficent and me.

This is what happens when we try to get a group kid photo - the gorillas, aka dads, causing a ruckus.

 Justin, Mandy, Maddox and McCoy
McCoy was the custest monkey ever.  Seriously ever.
While it wasn't a traditional Halloween, we all agreed this would probably by the Halloween our kids would be most likely to remember because they all go to be together.  It wasn't the most ideal of circumstances, but I think the kids had a blast and I'm thankful they could make those memories.

A Superhero Halloween!

After last year's awesomeness at Halloween, I was feeling some pressure to do something great again this year.  I felt like as long as the kids were cooperative with having a theme, I should just go with it.  We decided and had everybody agree upon being a superhero.  Without further ado, I give you the Burdorf Halloween costumes for 2014!
 The Hulk....a.k.a. Bowen
Batman...a.k.a. Blake
 Spiderman...a.k.a. Brody
Superwoman...a.k.a. Jenna (she thought she should fly!)
And...I thought Aaron and I should be festive as well.  Aaron was super excited about it. ;)  We told him he couldn't be a fun-hater, so he agreed!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
