Christmas comes early

I love to paint and make a mess!

Who's a cute little Hawkeye?

She looks like she's been naughty!

Aaron and I have been talking for a long time about getting a nicer camera. We decided a few weeks ago that that should be our Christmas gift for each other. Aaron has always loved to take pictures and ever since I have started working at the photography studio, I am beginning to understand and enjoy it even more. We were going to wait until after Christmas to purchase a camera, but thought we'd get it early so we'd have it FOR Christmas to capture snapshots of the kids and other family members. (For you techies out there, we got a Nikon D40) Aaron and I think it's a good investment and now we'll probably be posting even more photos than we usually do!

Hey...you guys will have to let me know if you like the Nikon. We also have been looking at cameras and we like the nikon ones but can't decide.

Brooke...we like the Nikon! It's easy to use and takes really good, clear pictures. You would like it, especially with all the pictures you take! :)

I am really dumb when it comes to cameras! So i have a couple questions for ya? So the nikon is a DSLR....Do you get good optical zoom with it without buying an extra lense? I like to take lots of pics of the boys in sports and everyone that i have talked to and the guy at best buy said for sport taking I may need to buy an extra lense for the zoom. They said i would be better off buying a camera that has 10x - 15x or more optical zoom unless i wanted to buy the extra lense with the camera. I like the nikon and i also have found a sony one i really like but i don't know. We have found a sony that has 15x optical zoom and it's not a DSLR. We have been looking at them for awhile but can't decide. I think we are going to wait awhile before we get one but just wanted to now about the difference between the cameras. I know someone who has a nikon and the pics turn out awesome. Right now we have a sony and when I try to zoom in on the boys during sports it gets really blurry that is some of the reason I would like a new camera and because I take tons of pics of Cam. So now that I have written a book I hope you can help me out!

Brooke-- don't try to compare a point and shoot camera to a DSLR. If you really want some help give us a call but for a quick answer 10x or 15x zoom means you are dividing the larger mm size by the smaller mm size like an 18-55 mm lense is a 3x zoom lense while a 55-200 mm lense is a 4x zoom lense. We got both these lenses with our 40D kid and that will be more than enough to take sports pics from the sidelines. Sometimes you might need to add light with a mounted flash but baseball is normally slow enough to get without a flash just a good lense will do. 10x or 15x zoom is like professional stuff (big stuff you see on the sidelines of an NFL game, way more than you need) and should cost a lot (like in the thousands) and if it doesn't it probably isn't a very quality lense. Your Sony 15x camera is a point and click with a mounted lense, not the same thing.

Ok I think I kind of get it but maybe I will talk to you over christmas about it so I understand it a little more. Yeah I think I messed up when I said something about wanting the 10x or more optical zoom and it would cost alot....i didn't mean one that expensive but I think I meant one that is the point and shoot and i think it was alot cheaper than the DSLR cameras( i think i said that right) So the point and click ones are usually alot cheaper than the DSLR cameras?Right? I am looking at 2 DSLR cameras(one a sony and one a nikon) and then one also that is cheaper and its a sony but not DSLR. Gosh I didn't think there was so much to cameras....All I knnow is I just want a nice camera that takes good pictures!

So you would pick a DSLR over a point and click camera?

Sorry I will be done after this ? I am going to rephrase the last ? and say is a nicer point and click camera worth it? Brad thinks we need just a point and click camera, probably because he has one like that at work and says its nice.I think the thing is that we are trying to decide between the point and click and DSLR. K I am done with ?...will talk to you at christmas with any further questions? :)

This is Jamie...I think it really depends on what you want to take pictures of. If it's just for Camden, a nice point and click would be fine (Mandy has a really nice Canon), but with sports pics of the boys, you might want the SLR. We'll have it at Christmas and you can look at it and try it out and see what you think! Are you going to be in Swea on the 25th or 26th?

Ok that sounds good! Yep we will be at Beadle's for christmas dinner....that is when she is having it right? I am coming home the 23rd and staying til later afternoon on christmas day. Brad can't come home with us so I want to be back here by 6 that night when he gets off so we can do our christmas! Hopefully we make it home with all this horrible weather we are getting. We got about 10 inches of snow last night and are in a blizzard watch for tomorrow with 3 more inches of snow and 30-40 mph winds....oh joy!! Well seeya at christmas!!!
