Burdorf Christmas

Over New Year's weekend we went to Omaha to celebrate Christmas and New Year's with the Burdorfs.  The weather felt more like Easter, but at least it was good travel weather!
Friday we got to Adam and Jill's just in time to see the Huskers get beat in their bowl game.  HOLLA!!  Sorrynotsorry Husker fans. ;)  Nothing goes better with games than game day food.  Yum!
Saturday was our "official" Christmas.  We opened gifts.  The Burdorf tradition is one at a time, even the kids and they stick to it. ;)
Miss Sass was super happy to get these new boots.  Not only are they cute, but they added another couple of inches to her already ever-growing self.
The kids were hilarious.  They had the best time in the basement playing cafe.  You want to know the name of their cafe?  Kozy Korner, of course!!  I know that will make you Armstrong people proud.  We may have talked about it once or twice.  Ha!
Adam and Jill were pretty excited to give Aaron his gift.  It was a framed photo from the front page of the Chicago Tribune the day after the Cubs won the World Series.  So cool!
Another Cubs gift for this Cubs-loving kid!
I made Grandma Linda an updated photo collage (see below) of her grandkids.  I think she liked it! The one hanging up in her house doesn't include Noah or Claire.  I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

Grandpa Frank travels a lot for his job, so we thought he needed a new jumbo travel mug.

We played some Skipbo and even put together a 300 piece puzzle.  This is big because I actually hate puzzles because I have zero patience, but the four oldest and I did it together!
All eight grandkids.  Not too shabby.
Grandma and Grandpa with the tribe.

And...all of us.  The whole Burdorf Bunch.

After presents, Aunt Jamie was in charge of some New Year's games for the kids and the big kids.  I, unfortunately, didn't get many photos because I was in charge.  We did have a lot of fun with balloons, let's just say that.  We took a break to wish Grandma a happy birthday and have a slice of birthday pie.
That wraps up our holiday season.  It was definitely a blessed one.  We are so grateful for our family!

Summer snapshots

I take A LOT of photos with my phone and also put quite a few photos on Instagram.  I heart Instagram.  I feel like they are little snapshots of our life.  The true thing.  The real deal.  Our summer days feel like they have been flying by, but here are a few snippets of what we've done so far.

We happened to be in Omaha for our niece's baptism and the Hawkeye baseball team just happened to make it to the Big 10 championship.  What are the odds?!  We had to go cheer on the Hawkeyes.  Obviously, Bowen wasn't excited.
We were surprised with kites in the mail!  They are big and sturdy and super cool.  We love them!
We recently had a bad wind storm sweep through.  A couple neighbors lost big branches.  Bowen drove around with me taking storm photos for the paper, hopped out of the mini van and got to work at our neighbor, Jon's.
You all know we love our baseball/softball.  Many an hour are spent doing toss drill or with the mom pitching some BP.  I wouldn't have it any other way.  LOVE it.
This summer I'm trying to notice the little things - sunrises, sunsets, puffy clouds, pretty flowers, etc.  I've kind of become obsessed with all things related to the sky.  I captured this while taking pictures at a softball game.  The lady next to me turned around in her chair because she couldn't figure out what I was doing.  She was like, "Wow.  Those are really pretty!"
A couple friends of mine and I have a garden!  Growing my groceries makes me happy.  Fresh is best!
Jenna and I take our girl time whenever we can get it!  We try to sneak away for groceries or errands when we get the chance.
We love our small town farmer's market.  They added giant games, including Jenga.  It's so fun!
One day I was at work and Aaron texted me a picture of Blake with a mohawk asking if he could keep it when he was cutting his hair.  I said sure.  Well, he literally let him keep it.  I actually really ended up liking it!  It fit his ornery personality and when Aaron shaved it off I was sad.
Nature walks are a must at our house.  It wears them down and we get to be outside and we love the scenery.

This was an adventure.  We did family photos and when we were leaving Blake got stung by a bee right under his nose.  After an hour drive home (nobody said a word on the way) I turned around and freaked out when I saw the left side of Blake's face.  This picture doesn't do it justice.  It was like something out of a movie.  Jenna and I headed to Ames, Aaron was trying to make calls, I was talking to first nurse while relaying questions for Jenna to check on Blake.  We were concerned his airway would close up.  Anyway, long story short, we were able to turn around and watch Brody's baseball game.  Whew!!
A trip to Minnesota for McCoy's birthday!  Aaron and Justin, the grill masters, were hard at work smoking meat.  It was so yummy!
Lots of reading this summer.  Kudos to our local library for their summer reading program!  The kids always get excited to go and cross off their reading minutes.  Me?  I'm just a self-proclaimed book nerd and proud of it!

Sunset chasing?  Yep, the twins and I did that a couple of nights ago.  I love the silhouettes of the windmills.
Ahhhh summer.  You need to slow down.  I actually broke down and let the kids buy a couple of things off their school supply list.  I know.  I know. I need more 80 degree days with a little breeze and low humidity.  THAT is my summer love language.

Christmas Numero Uno

We had the Hunecke/Heater/Burdorf/Knippel Christmas weekend in Mankato the weekend of the 13th and 14th.  Aaron had to ref Friday night, so we weren't able to head up until Saturday and we celebrated with my mom on Saturday and my dad on Sunday.
It was unseasonably mild in Minnesota, unfortunately.  Justin kept texting us to hurry up and get there because the snow was melting quickly.  By the time we made it to Mankato, it was 50 degrees!!
Saturday was spent drinking wine, eating cookies and catching up with family.
My mom, Bill and the whole crew.
The comedy started when we tried to get a Grandma Jo and grandkids pic.  Total chaos.
 The best we got! haha.
Saturday night we went to Sibley Park for the Kiwanis Light show.  It was BEAUTIFUL.  Seriously, there was no way you could walk through the park and not feel the Christmas spirit!

We decided we should wait in line to see Santa since the line wasn't terribly long.
 Our four and Mr. Claus
And then the fun began.  Carter wanted no part of it.  I love the look on Santa's face.
And...the photo that may haunt poor McCoy for years!  Classic.

Sunday, it was Grandpa Larry's turn.  We played many hands of UNO and Sequence.
After a yummy meal, it was time for presents round two.
Carter loves his cousin Jenna. :)
And, it's not a complete day until all three Burdorf boys are all wrestling.  All day loooonggggg.
And of course wrestling fan Aunt Mandy had to get in on the action.
It was a good weekend.  Too short, as always, but still a lot of fun and always a good time with family. :)
